The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the neutralization of top commanders and members of Boko Haram terrorists in a recent counter terrorist attack in the northeast by military personnel under the code name Operation Lafiya Dole.
The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche made this disclosure in a statement released on Sunday 19th July 2020 in Abuja.
Major Gen. John detailed that the military carried out the operation on 17th July, killing 6 of the terrorist members in Kolofata, a community situated on the Republic of Cameroon border, in an attempt to cross towards Sambisa Forest.
He also listed the equipment and items retrieved from the militias as a Magazine with 48 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, eight bicycles, one Honda car, three AK-47 rifles and one motorcycle.
He said: “Shortly after the successful operation, the enemy communication intercept, confirmed the killing of a top Boko Haram Commander named Sayinna and other fighters during the confrontation.
“The other slain terrorists were suspected to be Imam and Mansur to Abu Fatima who hibernates in Sambisa Forest.”
Mr John further stated that the military personnel sustained the onslaught against boko haram terrorist in the northeastern part of the country, eliminating top commanders of the organization, in an attempt to invade Army Super Camp, Damasak.
He attributed the success and devastation of the terrorists to the troops’ doggedness, superior firepower and maneuvering skills which forced some of the boko haram members to escape in disarray.
“This is evident by the constant changes in the leadership of Islamic State of West African Province within a short period of time, and this is largely due to the several damages inflicted on their men, weapons and equipment.” Mr Enenche said.
