Negotiations for Lionel Messi's $400m Move to Saudi Arabia Underway

Negotiations are reportedly underway for Lionel Messi to make a potential move to Saudi Arabia in a deal worth $400 million per year to play in the country’s Pro League.

The offer would exceed the current deal of more than $200 million signed by Cristiano Ronaldo to play in Saudi Arabia until 2025. Messi's father is said to be leading the negotiations for the Argentine World Cup champion. However, his recent unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia led to his suspension by his current club, Paris Saint-Germain, for two weeks.

As a result, Messi will reportedly not renew his contract with PSG, despite having previously agreed to stay with the club. Saudi Arabia's recent move to sign Ronaldo is part of its broader efforts to disrupt the world of professional sports, which also include financing the LIV Golf league and the purchase of Premier League club Newcastle United by its sovereign wealth fund.
