Islamic Group, MURIC Reacts After Yoruba Muslim Secured Presidency First Time Since Independence

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an Islamic advocacy group, extended their congratulations to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and winner of the 2023 presidential election. The organization's director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, hailed Tinubu's victory as a historic milestone.

Professor Akintola noted that Yoruba Christians had previously held the post, making Tinubu the first Muslim from the region to be elected to the position. He expressed his joy and satisfaction that Yoruba Muslims had finally secured the presidency for the first time since Nigeria's independence.

"It is noteworthy that three Yoruba Christians have previously held the post. We congratulate Yoruba Muslims on the election of Tinubu, a moderate Yoruba Muslim, which fulfils the aspirations of Muslims in the region," he remarked.

“We congratulate Yoruba Muslims for securing the presidency for the first time since independence. It is on record that three Yoruba Christians have occupied the post in the past. The victory of Tinubu, a moderate Yoruba Muslim, came as a fulfilment of the yearnings of Muslims in the region,” he said.
