In an article that appeared in the Punch Newspaper online this morning, it was stated that Onofiok Luke, the chairman of the House of Representatives committee on justice and a former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, revealed how one of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila's closest friends opposed his bid to become speaker in 2019.
When Luke was questioned if he had any regrets over siding with Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rather than his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he responded that he had none.
I don't have any regrets, he said Gbajabiamila's best friend, a particular governor, was not pleased that I backed him. The governor, who is from my area, still considers Gbajabiamila to be his greatest buddy despite the fact that I supported his ambition.
He said, "They eat dinner together. They have come to see what we saw back then, and Gbajabiamila has not let down Nigerians, me, or anyone else. He has been able to go above and beyond what is expected of a Speaker to address Nigeria's issues. For instance, he was the one who stepped in during the ASUU's eight-month strike situation, even at the risk of being accused of interfering in that matter by the executive.
