Why Tuchel Should Not Attempt A Back-three Defense Made Of Youngsters Next Season

Chelsea almost got away with a narrow victory against their host Charlotte FC in their friendly game in the early hours of Thursday at Bank Of America Stadium but one of the club's academy graduates, who was brought in during the second half, Levi Colwill conceded a penalty and Charlotte FC made good use of the opportunity to get an equaliser in the 92nd minutes of the game.

Since Chelsea began their Pre-season tour in the United States, the Fans of the West London club have been clamoring for the inclusion of youth in the friendly games, so that these Cobham graduates that spent last Season on loan with other clubs can get a chance to play for the first team next season.

The likes of Conor Gallagher, Ethan Ampadu, Levi Colwill, Armando Broja and Billy Gilmour are being tipped to impress but it's not going that way for many of them.

Armando Broja has already left the camp in the United States for the England amid West Ham United's interest in him and Billy Gilmour isn't part of Thomas Tuchel's plan for next season while Conor Gallagher, Levi Colwill and Ethan Ampadu are hoping to impress.

Conor Gallagher has the best chance among the trio as Chelsea needs reinforcement in the Midfield and the England International was impressive at Crystal Palace last season.

For Ethan Ampadu and Levi Colwill, one would think that the duo will be given a chance because Chelsea is currently rebuilding their defense but Thomas Tuchel has hinted on why it might not work out that way.

The German Gaffer, last week, said that it's not in the best interest of the young Players and the club to use the Young Players because they can't deliver at the level that's expected of them.

Last season, Andreas Christensen, Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr were fielded by Thomas Tuchel in a league game against Brentford and they were great together. However, we might not see anything like that next season.

Chelsea Fans are already thinking that there could be a defense back-three made up of Youngsters Levi Colwill, Ethan Ampadu and Chalobah next season but the performance of these young Players when they were called on against Charlotte FC has proven that it will be a disaster to use them together.

Reece James, Thiago Silva and Emerson started in back-three and played the first 45 minutes. In the second half, they were replaced with Levi Colwill, Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah. To say that their display was distasteful would be an understatement.
