It all happened last Friday February 5, 2021in Ayetoro area of Ogun State, when a suspected armed robber, operating in Civil Defence Corp uniform, broke into an off-campus apartment where some students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, in Ayetoro campus.
The culprit, Adeolu Bankole had robbed the students of their belonging including phones and laptops at gunpoint.
Bewildered by the development, the students stormed the Ayetoro Police Area Command to lodge a complaint of the incident.
Upon the report, the Area Commander, ACP Anthony Haruna, detailed his detectives to go after the hoodlum.
After hours of painstaking investigation, the detectives received information about the hideout of the suspect and on getting there, a bag containing six phones, one laptop, a pair of civil defense uniform and a locally made pistol was found.
Upon the discovery, the detectives mounted surveillance in the area and at about 5pm same day, the suspect sneaked into the uncompleted building which is the hideout and moved straight to where the bag was kept.
He was quickly rounded up and brought to the station by police detectives.
Two other stolen phones and a wrist watch was also found on him.
The complainants were sent for, and they all identified him as the person who robbed them.
Investigation further revealed that the suspect stole the pair of Civil Defence uniform from a parked Toyota Camry car belonging to an officer of the corp sometimes in December, 2020 and thereafter set the car ablaze.
Fortunately, the officer who owned the uniform has also identified the uniform as his own.
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the story.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward A. Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.
