53- year- old Dahiru Buba, who trekked from Gombe to Abuja for 15 days to celebrate President Muhammadu Buhari' s victory in 2015, has asked Nigerians to forgive the president for his shortcomings.
According to VANGUARD, in an interview with NAN in Gombe, Buba said that Buhari had lived up to the expectations of Nigerians in his eight years in office, describing him as a sincere leader who truly loved the country and worked toward giving his best for Nigeria.
Buba went on to laud the president for his administration' s efforts in addressing the Boko Haram insurgency that almost sacked his community in Dukku Local Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State.
He said that the peace being enjoyed by the residents of the community and others affected by the Boko Haram insurgency was immeasurable and can only be attributed to Buhari' s efforts.
" Looking back to 2015 when I trekked from Gombe to Abuja for 15 days, I will say I thank God I didn' t trek in vain. If I have my way, I will repeat what I did; I will trek again for him (Mr President), " Buba said.
Responding to criticisms of the Buhari administration, Buba said it was not possible for the President to satisfy all Nigerians. He appealed to those who feel offended by Buhari' s actions to forgive him, as he is only human.
Buba, a father of eight, also commended Nigerians for the support given to Buhari in his eight years of rule, urging them to accord more support to President- elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu. He further commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State for the gift of a car and some cash in 2020 to appreciate him for trekking to celebrate Buhari' s victory in 2015.
It is worth noting that Buba' s trekking feat in 2015, which covered over 800km, made him famous in Nigeria and attracted the attention of President Buhari, who invited him to the Presidential Villa. His act of loyalty and support for the president earned him the respect and admiration of many Nigerians.
Dahiru Buba' s support for President Buhari serves as a reminder of the importance of citizens' involvement in politics and the need for leaders to work toward fulfilling their promises to the people. Buba' s call for forgiveness for the president' s shortcomings is also a testament to the need for Nigerians to be understanding and patient with their leaders as they navigate the complex challenges of governance.
