Prayer is a way of talking to God. It is defined as a communication between God and man. Prayer is not just a ritual that is expected to be performed by every Christian but it is an obligation for every child of God needs prayer to succeed and end well in life.
When it comes to prayer, the initiator can come from either God or man. That is, God can start the communication in which case He calls the one He intends to speak with and give the message. We have cases in the Bible where God specifically initiated the discussion.
For instance, He called Samuel at a tender age to discuss with him. As we can see in 1 Samuel 3: 4-11
4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
6 And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.
8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.
9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
There seems to be a general agreement among Christians when it comes to the meaning and components of prayers. However, when it comes to how to pray, some believe there are right ways to doing so. It is expected that we pray in the name of Jesus who is the mediator between man and God. This is because Jesus himself said, “ if you ask anything in my name, you will receive it” John 14: 13-14.
Jesus also taught us how to pray in Matthew 6: 9.... Praying through other names aside the name of Jesus can hinder prayers. May the Lord answer our prayers this season and always in Jesus name.
Feel free to read and make your contributions. Thanks and God bless you real good in Jesus name.
