Why Peter Obi Left PDP For Labour Party — Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State recently disclosed the reason behind Peter Obi's departure from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) during a meeting with the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Worldwide National Executive Committee. According to Wike, Obi left the party after learning that some PDP leaders were insistent on retaining power in the north. Wike further revealed that he supported Obi's ambition for the presidency and provided him with logistical support during his campaign, but turned down support for other candidates.

The governor recounted how Obi had visited Sule Lamido in Jigawa and was informed that the north would continue to hold power in 2023. Obi then questioned why the other person was wasting time and subsequently left the PDP.

Wike stated that he observed some of his supporters working against him during the convention but was undeterred. He also emphasized his stance on the chairmanship position, insisting that it should not be held by someone who has already secured the presidential candidate position.
