The Association of Master Bakers And Caterers of Nigerian has threatened to shut down operations across the country as the Federal Government has refused to resolve vital issues confronting the industry
Chairman of the association, Gabriel Adeniyi, while addressing the issue in Lokoja, Kogi state, said that the association has resolved to shut down bakeries across the nation as a result of the government's resistance to listen to their yearnings
He said the bread industry has been confronting a lot of challenges ranging from shortage of raw materials, increasing cost of materials, over taxation and levies
He said the aforementioned has rendered the industry to be less productive and also hindered it from growing
He said a lot of promises were made by the government after the ban on the importation of flowers, to make homegrown wheat and every other baking ingredient available to them, but none has been fulfilled
Moreso, he said the industry also requested palliatives in form of soft loans or subsidies to bakers to enable the production of quality and affordable quantities but the request was turned down
He said, the industry has thought about all these challenges and has resolved to shut down from July 20 to 26
