In the last few months, there have been reports that former President Goodluck Jonathan is being wooed by the All Progressive Congress so that he can become the party's presidential candidate in 2023.
The speculation gathered momentum after several APC Governors including its National Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni paid a private visit to Jonathan during his 63rd birthday.
Though both Jonathan and Buni has denied that the visit had anything to do with politics, close party sources confirmed to the media that it was all about 2023.
So, if Jonathan agrees to defect to APC for the sake of the 2023 presidency, it will have a great implication on other aspirants within APC, especially former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu.

Bola Tinubu has been highly favoured to emerge as the party's candidate for 2023. But now that the party is reportedly wooing Jonathan what should Tinubu do?
In this report, I will analyse several strategic political options available to Tinubu and for which he will remain relevant and a strong political force
Rally like minds in APC to reject the imposition of Jonathan on the party
It will be unfair for APC leaders to truncate Tinubu's ambition by awarding the party's ticket to Jonathan on a platter of gold. This is so because Tinubu is one of the founder members of APC and he has invested so much for the success of the party.

So, if the party EXCO gifts the ticket to Jonathan, Tinubu can rally like minds, especially in the South to reject the imposition.
He can do this by instituting a court case against the party and Jonathan challenging the validity of the action and seeking an injunction to overturn the decision.
He can gather his loyalist and decamp to another party
Any party that Tinubu decamps to automatically becomes a big party because Tinubu is a colossus in Nigerian politics. He is sure to quickly attract all the attention needed to boost the party.

This will give him control of that party structure and he could easily emerge the party's presidential candidate without struggles.
Another option that is available to Tinubu is to pull out the Action Congress of Nigerian caucus that joined to form APC in 2013.
He can then revive the ACN, and grow it into a national party through a vigorous membership drive. He can also ride on the ACN platform to contest the election.
