Osimhen makes history, leads Napoli to Scudetto title after 33 years

According to the punch news,Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker, made history on Sunday by leading SSC Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years. Osimhen played a crucial role in Napoli's 2-0 victory over Sampdoria, scoring the opening goal in the 13th minute and setting up the second goal for Matteo Politano in the 74th minute.

Osimhen's performance in the game was outstanding, as he showcased his skill, speed, and finishing ability. The 22-year-old Nigerian joined Napoli in the summer of 2020 from French club Lille for a club-record fee of €70 million, making him the most expensive African player in history at the time.

Although Osimhen struggled with injuries and COVID-19 during his first season in Italy, he has gradually found his form and become a key player for Napoli. He has scored ten goals in 23 appearances this season, including two in the last two games that secured the title for Napoli.

Osimhen's achievement is significant, as it makes him the first Nigerian player to win the Serie A title and the second African player after Ghanaian legend Abedi Pele, who won it with Marseille in 1991. It also puts him in the company of some of Napoli's greatest players, including Diego Maradona, who led the club to their last Scudetto in 1990.

The victory is a remarkable turnaround for Napoli, who finished seventh in Serie A last season and were struggling to find their form earlier in the current campaign. However, under the guidance of coach Gennaro Gattuso, they have mounted an impressive comeback and won the title with two games to spare.

The Scudetto is Napoli's third Serie A title in their history, following their previous triumphs in 1987 and 1990. The achievement is a testament to the club's resilience, as they have faced numerous challenges on and off the pitch in recent years, including the death of Maradona in November 2020.

Overall, Osimhen's contribution to Napoli's title triumph has been immense, and he has cemented his place as one of the most exciting young talents in world football. His success is also a source of pride for Nigeria, which has produced many great footballers over the years and continues to be a hotbed of talent.
