In a strong comeback, Arsenal climbed back to the top of the Premier League with an impressive performance against their struggling London rivals, Chelsea. The Gunners had not won any of their previous four games but secured a convincing victory to leapfrog Manchester City for at least 24 hours.
The captain, Martin Odegaard, scored two goals, and Gabriel Jesus added another before the interval. Meanwhile, Chelsea lost their sixth successive match under interim boss Frank Lampard. Noni Madueke scored a consolation goal for the Blues, who have now lost six of their last seven games against Arsenal.
While it was a memorable night for Odegaard, his predecessor, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who started for Chelsea for the first time since facing Arsenal on 6 November, would want to forget his performance as he was substituted at interval.
Despite a four-game winless run, Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, refused to rule his side out of the title race. The win put them back at the summit of the league, two points clear of the Citizens but having played two games more, with Pep Guardiola's men in excellent form ahead of their Wednesday fixture against the Hammers.
