In an interview with TVC News, former governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose was asked if he would join the APC if they approached him. Fayose responded by saying he would never join the APC. In his words:
I, Ayo Peter Fayose, have never been and never will be a member of the All Progressives Congress. Despite my admiration for Asiwaju, I would never join the APC because I believe that leaders should always speak the truth. I'm not the type to hop from one political group to another. Obviously, I don't want to run for president of Nigeria again at my advanced age, so I have to ask myself whether there's anything else out there that would motivate me to run for office on the APC ticket. My son ran for the House of Representatives not long ago. Do I anticipate more conflict with my son? No, not today's obi hurricane.
