The Premier League resumed play today, with four teams playing their match-day 26 games. Today's games featured Nottingham hosting Everton and Liverpool hosting Manchester United. Let's take a look at how these two games played out.
* Nottingham Forest 2-2 Everton
Everton were looking for a positive result as they traveled to Nottingham Forest's City Ground. Knowing they needed a win to get out of the relegation zone, the Toffees got off to a flying start, taking the lead within 10 minutes thanks to a beautiful well-taken penalty by Demarai Gray after Dwight McNeil was brought down in the 18 yard box.
They couldn't keep their lead for long, however, as Brennan Johnson equalized nine minutes later. Everton pressed on and regained the lead in the 29th minute thanks to a brilliant header from Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The visitors appeared to be on their way to victory after their defense was able to neutralize all Nottingham attacks. Brennan Johnson, however, came to the rescue for the hosts once again, dancing through Everton's defense to slot home a perfect equalizer in the dying minutes of the game.
Both teams pushed for the winner, but neither could convert on the few chances they had in the game's final minutes. The game ended 2-2, with both teams taking home a point each.
* Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United
Liverpool produced a legendary performance in the Premier League today, defeating eternal rivals Manchester United 7-0, adding fuel to their pursuit of a top-four finish. The visitors got off to a flying start, as their counter-attacking prowess caused Liverpool problems, but the hosts held firm. As halftime approached, Liverpool grew into the game, and Gakpo was able to give Liverpool the lead with their first shot on goal.
The Red Devils' fortunes were turned upside down in the second half, as Nunez and Gakpo scored to extend the host's lead to 3-0 within the first 20 minutes of the restart. Salah added another goal minutes later to make it 4-0.
Nunez's header was the fifth goal on an awful afternoon for the Red Devils, prompting hordes of visiting fans to leave the stadium. As if that wasn't enough, Liverpool added goals six and seven through Salah and Firmino, capping off a truly memorable afternoon for the Anfield faithful.
