INSECURITY: ESSIEN UDIM LAWMAKER, COUNCIL CHAIRMAN CONDEMN KILLING OF POLICE OFFICERS.
The Police in Essien Udim Local Government Area has reported that two police officers were gruesomely killed by hoodlums at Ikpe Junction along Ikot Ekpene Road between the early hours of Monday, 22nd February, 2021, and the vehicle set ablaze along with the remains of the fallen officers.
In a remark that evoked pathos, the lawmaker condoled with the Police Force and the bereaved families. Furthering, he decried that such is happening at a time when the area is recording appreciable progress especially in the area of security.
In a chat with newsmen, the Council Boss of Essien Udim, Hon. Anthony Luke appealed for a more robust partnership with the police authorities in other to curb the menace. The Chairman reiterated his irrevocable commitment towards stemming the tides of insecurity in the area.
He promised not to allow the present situation degenerate to anarchy and general insecurity where hoodlums will have free days to kill, destroy and loot people’s property with impunity. " We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring those violent and criminally minded culprits face the full weight of the law", the Chairman assured.
Luke further pleaded with the youths not to take laws into their hands, assuring that he had waded into the disturbances in Essien Udim with a view to restore normalcy
Reacting, the Area Commander of Ikot Ekpene Area Command, ACP Bello Kankorofi, while expressing displeasure of the police force over the horrible incidence, noted that the command will repel any group of individuals that might want to continue with these heinous and barbaric acts across the state.
He urged denizens of the area to go about their legitimate businesses peacefully stressing that relevant security agencies and stakeholders have moved into the matter for a lasting solution to insecurity problems in the area.
