The People's Democratic Party, PDP yesterday at Enugu sealed the hope of Senator Iyom Uche Ekwunife and Dr Obiora Okonkwo of participating in the party's primary election for November 6th governorship election.
The PDP at an emergency southeast caucus meeting yesterday at Enugu which was attended by Governor Wike of Rivers State adopted zoning and agreed that the next governorship candidate of the party will come from Anambra south senatorial zone.
This adoption therefore sealed the aspiration of Dr Obiora Okonkwo and Iyom Uche Ekwunife who are from Anambra central senatorial zone. Though Ekwunife is from Igbo-Ukwu but married to Nri where she currently represents ndi Anambra central at the senate.
At the meeting yesterday, Gov Wike who was in Enugu to commiserate with the family of Ekweremadu for the death of their son, Mathias Ekweremadu used the opportunity to address the PDP stakeholders in southeast.
We gathered that Wike specifically asked that the PDP leaders in Anambra state should hands off the selection process of picking it's gubernatorial candidate in November 6 governorship election. He appealed to them to allow PDP Governors Forum, to pick the best candidate for them if they are serious of winning the election.
With the adoption of the zoning at the meeting yesterday, it is not clear if those affected especially Dr Obiora Okonkwo who has invested so much in this project will accept the decision.
Another issue discussed at the meeting according to a source who confided in Anambra Broadcasting Service is the pending cases at the courts. PDP Anambra state has several cases on the state leadership of the party. Those who are against Ndubuisi Nwobu are in courts fighting to remove him as the state chairman.
Others are fighting to change the list of LGA and ward executives of the party ahead of the party primaries. They want to use the courts to authenticate their own lists and these issues formed part of the discussion at Enugu yesterday.
The meeting agreed to begin a process of getting these litigants to withdraw the cases at the courts.
