After a breakup, you may have a hard time adjusting to singlehood, especially if you have been in a relationship for many years. You probably worry about being lonely or growing old alone. You may even feel jealous whenever a sweet couple passes by you. However, there are also good things about being single. Actually, there are people who enjoy the freedom of singlehood much that they delay committing to a serious relationship or getting married.
1. You sleep better.
Being free from a blanket hog or sleep kicker is not only more comfortable, but it can lead to a big health benefit. A survey by Amerisleep found that, among participants, single people slept better than even people in happy relationships.
2. You make your own schedule.
When you're in a committed partnership, you have to take the other person's schedule into account. That may mean having a late dinner when they have a tough day at the office or missing out on your friend's birthday party to attend their brother's wedding.
3. You can work on yourself.
It is awfully tempting to get complacent when you have a partner. A survey by UK researchers found that 62% of respondents gained 14 pounds or more after beginning a relationship. This weight gain appears to be a direct consequence of typical date-night activities.
4. You can save tons of time.
It’s fun to send flirty texts back and forth, but can you imagine how much time the typical couple spends on their phones? A lot of people get anxious without constant communication, so those texts and phone calls might add up to a loss of several hours per day. Of course, you could just choose a partner who is more independent, but finding such a creature could be a difficult task.
5. You can crush on anyone any time anywhere.
This is a beautiful thing. Cutie in math class? On it. That guy sitting in your row at the movie theater? Yep. That girl you stumbled across on Tumblr who has the coolest taste in music on the planet? Uh huh.
6.You're learning exactly who you are.
Figuring out who you are is hard enough without the added pressure of focusing on how to be a girlfriend, too. When you're single, you don't have to worry if you're into fantasy football because Tyler's into it, or if you *actually* like it because you're good at it.
