Bill Gates, Elon Musk, others Twitter accounts hacked.

Several verified twitter accounts were on Wednesday believed to be hacked as several tweets which offered double bitcoin giveaways emanated from these accounts.

The twitter accounts included that of Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and more.

The yet to be identified hackers posted tweets stating a Bitcoin wallet address along with the assurance of sending back double the amount of coins sent to it.

Twitter said it removed the tweets posted by the attackers and locked down the affected accounts immediately.

In a series of tweet released by Twitter, they wrote, "We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter.

We know they used this access to take control of many highly-visible (including verified) accounts and Tweet on their behalf,

We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly."

The stated Bitcoin wallet address according to public blockchain records was believed to have received about 12.9 bitcoins currently valued at more than $114,000.

"Tough day for us at Twitter. We all feel terrible this happened", Jack Dorsey the CEO of Twitter tweeted.
