Countless African footballers have ended up winning the Premier League over the years. Algeria's Riyad Mahrez won it at Leicester City and Manchester City. Ivory Coast's Didier Drogba won it at Chelsea. Nigeria's Kanu Nwankwo won it at Arsenal. Senegal's Sadio Mane won it at Liverpool. I could go on and on and on. But the question is, who was the first ever African player to win the Premier League?

Many football lovers may not remember him but his name is Christopher Wreh, a former Liberian international. He is a cousin to George Weah and joined Arsenal from Monaco back in 1997. The following year, Arsenal won the Premier League and he became the first African to achieve the feat.

Wreh actually won the league and cup double that year, as Arsenal were also crowned FA Cup champions. He also won the Charity Shield in 1998 and 1999 before leaving the club for Al-Hilal.
