Kogi government suspends king of Eganyi over policeman's slaying

Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, has ordered the immediate suspension of Alhaji Musa Achuja, the chairman of the Ajaokuta Traditional Area Council and the Ohi of Eganyi.

The governor further instructed that the Chairman of Ajaokuta Local Government Area, Hon. Mustapha Aka'aba, be questioned about the breach and should reply within 24 hours in a letter to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kogi State.

The PUNCH reports that on Saturday, a security team assembled by the Divisional Police Officer of the Ajaokuta Divisional Office in response to an intelligence report of suspected bandits invading farms and engaging in illegal activities in the area was ambushed and three policemen and five local vigilantes were killed.

The governor strongly warned other traditional rulers across the state who may have connections with criminal elements in their domains to stop immediately, saying that his administration will deal ruthlessly with anyone who romances with criminal elements no matter how highly placed they are, according to a statement released on Sunday by the governor's chief press secretary, Mohammed Onogwu.

In the same line, Governor Bello issued a directive restricting the local government council chairmen's travel outside of their home territory and other unauthorized trips.

The governor cautioned that he would not be deterred from his core duty to protect the lives and property of the citizens and residents of the state by any amount of collusion with criminals.
