According to reports coming from VANGUARD, the Independent National Electoral Commissioner has announced it will publish the personal particulars of candidates for the November 11 Governorship election in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states.
The report has it that INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye revealed this in a message handed out on Thursday in Abuja.
The report urged Nigerians to take particular interest in scrutinizing the lists which will be shown at its State Headquarters and Local Government offices in the three states, INEC precisely counseled candidates who took part in the several political parties' Governorship Primary Elections and with adequate grounds to believe that the information delivered by any aspirant is false, to question the nomination at the Federal High Court as provided in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.
“Nigerians may recollect that on Tuesday 25th of October 2022, the Commission published the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the three off-cycle Governorship polls in Bayelsa, lmo, and Kogi States held on Saturday the 11th of November 2023.
“Political parties performed their primaries as expected by law and uploaded the names and private particulars of their aspirants and running mates to the INEC candidate nomination portal by the deadline of 6.00 pm on 5th May 2023", the statement reads.
“All the 18 political parties have nominated aspirants for the Kogi Governorship poll and seventeen parties for Bayelsa and Imo States. All the political parties funding candidates for the 3 elections have submitted the duly finished Forms EC9 comprising of personal particulars supported by affidavits as well as EC9B containing the names of their aspirants.
“As required by Section 29 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the Commission shall publicize the personal particulars of the aspirants in the State Headquarters and Local Government offices in the 3 States tomorrow Friday 12th May 2023.
