Karim Benzema who netted the opening goal for the host yesterday has now scored his 70th UCL goals as the 5th highest ever in the competition's history.

Karim Benzema has always been at the rescue for Real Madrid across all competitions since the departure of Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

Karim Benzema has been clinical since his return from injury and as such has netted 21 goals for the La Liga Champion this season - 15 more goals than any other Real Madrid player in all competitions this season (Casemiro, 6), with his opener his 70th UEFA champions league goal - the fifth most of any player in the competition.

European football governing body known as UEFA has reacted to the historic milestone of the France international, as they posted via their verified twitter handle to welcome and applaud him as he joined the exclusive champoins league goal scoring club.

Karim Benzema has now scored 70 goals in the Champions league - only four players in history have more:

⚽️1⃣3⃣4⃣ Cristiano Ronaldo

⚽️1⃣2⃣0⃣ Lionel Messi

⚽️7⃣2⃣ Robert Lewandowski

⚽️7⃣1⃣ Raúl González

⚽️7⃣0⃣ Karim Benzema.

Karim Benzema (2005-2021) has also equalled Lionel Messi (2005-2021) and Raul Gonzalez's (1995-2011) record of scoring in 17 consecutive calendar years.

Karim Benzema with all these feats will be hoping to keep his run of form going as he is also the highest scoring Frenchman in the competition - 20 more than any other (Henry, 50) in the competition's history.

Real Madrid will now be looking forward to know who their potential opponent in the quarter finals would be when the draw is made on Friday, with the hope to keep their title pursuit going.
