2023: SERAP requests INEC to permit 7 million Nigerians to finish voters registration

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has approached the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to direly permit Nigerians to finish citizen registration.

SERAP said INEC ought to permit 7,000,000 Nigerians to finish their enlistment.

The body noticed that Nigerians need to finish the process to participate in the 2023 general decisions.

INEC had said more than 7,000,000 Nigerians failed to finish their online voter pre-registeration at physical centers.

The continuous voter registration exercise (CVR), which started in June 2021, finished on Sunday, July 31, 2022.

INEC had provided a portal where Nigerians could enlist by recording in their biodata and required reports, after which they were supposed to visit INEC assigned centers to genuinely finish the process.

Responding, SERAP, in a tweet, stated: "BREAKING: INEC should earnestly permit more than 7,000,000 Nigerians who supposedly did their voter pre-registeration on the internet yet could not finish the process at physical centers to finish their registration so they can cast a vote in the 2023 general election."
