Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has pleaded with the incoming president to help states that are unable to raise enough money for their own projects from the federal government. According to Governor Wike, it is essential for the federal government and the state to have a working relationship in which they support each other throughout the course of a project. This would help maintain public confidence in the current administration. Wike made the comments at the flyover's opening in Rumuokwuta/Rumuola.
"The federal government will step in to help if we don't have enough money to support a project. A trustworthy federal government is something we want to work with. Other states will join in if the president-elect shows such support for Rivers State once he assumes office". "The president-elect has my word that we don't want people to be angry with the federal government. It is not a joke, and I am not asking for anything to which we are not legally entitled".
"The federal government ought to tell you that you are a true son of this government and that you have absolved us of shame. People now don't mistreat us because of you. If we hadn't come and said, "Let's cover you so that people won't abuse you," people here would have been abusing the federal government and wouldn't have supported you, so I believe you should repay us ", he said.
In the meantime, the governor's claim that Rivers residents would not have supported Tinubu if they had not been provided with coverage sheds some light on what actually happened in the state during the election.
