According to Punch News report, Members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (New Era) in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have arrested a middle-aged man suspected to be a member of a robbery syndicate that specializes in dispossessing unsuspecting pedestrians of their valuables along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The arrest was made at about 7 pm on Monday while the suspect, identified as Tajudeen, was attempting to steal a generating set at the Oke Afa area of Magboro in the state. The suspect was handed over to policemen attached to the Warewa Police Station along the expressway.
According to the leader of the OPC in the area, Ogunsolu Olayiwola, the suspect was known to be part of a gang that robs people along the expressway, specifically at the Magboro Bus Stop end. The suspect also confessed to having been involved in stealing from a nearby fishpond among other places. The OPC members apprehended him when the owner of a shop raised the alarm after Tajudeen attempted to steal a generating set, he later tried to escape by jumping into an uncompleted building, but the OPC members caught him.
The suspect was taken to the Warewa Police Station where he confessed to the police that he was part of a gang that operates along the Magboro Bus Stop end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He also mentioned the names of some of his gang members who are currently at large.
Semiu Oladapo, another member of the OPC team, said that when they asked him about those he operates with, he confessed to them that he has others in the vicinity that specialize in snatching bags, phones, and other valuables along Magboro Bus Stop. The OPC members have handed over the suspect to the police, who said they would charge him to court later in the week.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been a hotspot for criminal activities, with many reported cases of robbery and other forms of criminality. The arrest of Tajudeen is a significant development in the fight against crime along the expressway, and it is hoped that the police will take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and security of commuters and residents in the area.
