For the 7th El Clasico in a row, Messi has failed to score against eternal rivals, Real Madrid. Real Madrid won Barcelona 2-1 last night and Messi couldn't register a single goal. Messi hasn't scored a goal against Real Madrid since Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus.
Real Madrid are now on top of the league table. They have equal points with Atletico Madrid and are one point ahead of Barcelona. Still, the title race is very much open for any of these 3 teams to win.
Many carry the notion that Messi is the highest goal scorer in any El Clasico played in any competition. And it is absolutely true. But however, Messi is still not the greatest player of the El Clasico.
Just last night, it made it 17 seasons that Messi played in an El Clasico. And in his 17 seasons, Messi has scored 26 goals against Real Madrid in all competitions. But his closest competitor and rival, Cristiano has scored 18 goals in 9 seasons for Real Madrid against Barcelona. This places him in a better goal ratio than Messi because if Ronaldo had the time Messi had in Spain, he would surely have overtaken Messi and become the greatest plyer of the El Clasico. And now, for the 7th straight time, Messi hadn't scored in an El Clasico.
Could this be the last El Clasico for Real Madrid?
