It was another disappointing game for the gunners as they let three points sleep off their hands and also, they allowed Aston villa have a league double over them.
One positives of the game is that new Goalkeeper, Matt Ryan had a great first match for the gunners. Aside for the goal he conceded, I feel he put in a good shift in the absence of Bernd Leno.
Arsenal went behind in the second minute of the game due to lack of concentration and Aston villa's striker, Watkins was there to finish off a great ball. Arsenal had most of the possession but were not able to create much goal scoring chances.
Cedric Soares and Lacazette had an off game today as they were highly inefficient offensively. The goals weren't coming in the second half and so Arteta did some changes. He brought in Martin Odegaard for Cedric, Aubameyang for Lacazette and Willian Borges for Thomas Partey.
All the changes were on point aside from one. Odegaard looks a good player, nice weight of pass and makes himself available well. We were looking threatening once he came on, but bringing Willian on for Partey was not a good decision. I understand that Arteta wanted more attacking players in the game, but the Thomas Partey - Willian substitution ruined everything.
Willian was highly inefficient as he didn't play one positive ball in the game. The picture below as provided by STAT ZONE shows Willian's passes ( all backwards). The Willian signing will go down as one of the worst deals Arsenal ever made in history.
In a nutshell, Bringing out Thomas partey and replacing him with Willian Borges spoiled the game.
