Manchester United lost a vital point in the Championship race today with a 7-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez each scored twice to hand Erik Ten Hag his heaviest defeat as Manchester United manager.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead at half-time through a shot into the box by Cody. The Netherlands took the lead through Andrew Robertson in the 43rd minute. Manchester United tried to equalize in the second half but Darwin Nunez scored his second goal in the 47th minute of the second half and Liverpool took a step back with Cody Gakpo scoring his second goal three minutes later. He put Liverpool 3-0 up.
Two goals from Salah and Nunez in the 66th and 75th minutes extended Liverpool's lead to five goals. The first was when Roberto Firmino added a 7th goal in the 83rd minute to complete the rout.
