WC African qualifiers: How Group C and J table looks & team most likely to qualify from each group

The Super Eagles missed a chance to extend their lead at the top of Group C after the World Cup qualification match against the Central African Republic ended 0-1 at Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos. The goal which ensured the visitors left Nigeria with all 3 points was scored in the 90th minute by Karl Namnganda.

With that loss, Nigeria remains at the top of the table, however, their 3 points lead has been reduced to 2 after Cape Verde who was on 1 point heading into game week 3 beat Liberia 2-1 away from home.

Even though the Super Eagles lost they are still likely to qualify from this group as they dominated the match but couldn't create enough goal-scoring opportunities. If they can do that when both countries meet for the second leg on Sunday, they would be comfortable once again.

Group J

Benin is currently top of Group J after beating Tanzania 1-0 away from home. However, it appears the deciding match will be their away game against the Democratic Republic of the Congo which comes up on 14 November.

The Leopards are currently second in the group but based on current form they should be able to beat Madagascar in the second leg on Sunday. If they do that and still get a favorable result away to Tanzania, it will set up an exciting home game against Benin.

Having said that, as it stands I think Benin is the likely team that will qualify from this group. They will play their next 2 games at home and it is against teams they have already beaten. If they have not qualified for the 3rd round before their away match against DR Congo, what they would need is a draw.
