Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-elect, has praised INEC for how the 2023 general elections were handled.
After being crowned the victor of the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu made this call on Wednesday while delivering his acceptance speech.
In his words, “I want to commend INEC for a credible election. We recognize the election as credible and the international observers also acknowledged the credibility of the election.
“With this election, we have created the biggest democracy as Nigerians and we must be proud of that".
Recall that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu was proclaimed the winner of the 2023 presidential election by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The INEC chairman made the declaration at the National Collation Center in Abuja on Wednesday.
Tinubu won the race, beating other 17 candidates that ran for office. He received the highest number of votes (8,794,726) overall, which satisfied the first constitutional condition to be proclaimed the victor.
Additionally, he received more than 25% of the votes cast in 30 states, above the constitutional requirement of 25 states.
Atiku Abubakar of the PDP came in second, according to INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, who made the final results announcement early on Wednesday in Abuja.
In the election, Atiku received 6,984,520 votes overall.
With a total of 6,101,533 votes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party came in third, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came in fourth with 1,496,687 votes.
Only the top four contenders were successful in winning the presidency in at least one state. Mr. Kwankwaso only won in Kano, while Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi each won in 12 states.
To be declared the election's victor, a candidate does not necessarily need to win a majority of the states.
In the meantime, Tinubu has urged his rivals to avoid using violence and suggested that they seek justice in a court of law instead.
This was revealed by Tinubu in a statement on Wednesday, shortly after being named the winner of the 2023 presidential election.
He declared that he offers a hand of friendship to all of the presidential contenders and has the utmost regard for them.
