Prof. Wole Soyinka, a Nobel laureate, and human rights attorney Femi Falana on Tuesday backed the PDP National Assembly members' effort to remove President Muhammadu Buhari from office. Speaking during an interaction event held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Abeokuta Club in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Soyinka and Falana claimed that the President had broken his promises to Nigerians.

The PDP National Assembly members who took a walkout from the sessions last Wednesday in protest of the President's inability to eradicate terrorism were the ones who first proposed the idea to impeach Buhari.

Buhari was given six weeks to put an end to terrorism or face being impeached by the lawmakers.

The Joint Administration and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, a lawyer and chartered accountant, Gbenga Adeoye, a businessman in the state, Ogo Oluwa Bankole, and the spokesman of the Electricity Distribution Companies, Sunday Oduntan, served as panellists in the individual’s interaction with Soyinka serving as the moderator.

Soyinka stated in his statement that the President should indeed be removed from office because of his violation of the democratic pact.
