Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has called on leaders and stakeholders of the party to reflect on prevailing challenges and come up with strategies that will enable the PDP to take its dominant place once again.

Atiku gave the charge in Abuja on Thursday at a reception organized for returning and newly elected governors on the platform of the party.

“We have a number of challenges. We started as a dominant political party in 1999, but since then, we have been receding. It is time to take stock and find out why we are receding and how we can make sure that our position as the leading political party in the country can be regained.

“This is a very important challenge that requires a whole day seminar so that we can as a party regain our eminent position in the country,” he said.

The former vice president also urged party leaders and members alike to be hopeful of the favourable outcome in the presidential election petition.

“We all know that the PDP did not lose the last election. We should be determined and focus on retrieving our mandate that has been stolen,” Atiku said.

To enable Nigeria to keep the important position and make way for him to complete his nationally beneficial tenure as an Executive Member of the International Police Organization, INTERPOL, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the retiring Assistant Inspector General of Police, Garba Baba Umar, as a Senior Security Adviser on International Police Cooperation and Counter-terrorism in the office of the Minister of Police Affairs

In approving his appointment, Buhari took note of a precedent in which a former Executive Member, AIG Kamal Subair (Rtd), was retained in service by the Federal Government of Nigeria after retirement in 2018.

This was disclosed in a statement by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, on Thursday.

The National Coordinator of South-West Agenda for Asiwaju, Dayo Adeyeye, has said that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, will not marginalise any section of the country whether they voted for him or not.

Adeyeye, who was a former spokesperson for the 9th Senate, gave the assurance while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

The Afenifere chieftain said Tinubu had no reason to marginalise any part of the country because he won his election convincingly across the country.

He noted that the President-elect had the constitutional requirements in five out of the six geopolitical zones cutting across 31 out of the 36 states of the Federation.

He said, “This shows a big spread throughout the country. Framers of the constitution say whoever will be president of Nigeria must have a presence of support widely throughout the country. Tinubu has met those requirements.

“Notwithstanding, the people in a few areas of the country where it was very obvious he did not meet the constitutional requirements have absolutely nothing to fear in the incoming administration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
