The Kano State Government on Thursday said the charges of murder leveled against Alhassan Ado Dogunwa, the Majority leader of House of Representatives cannot be sustained for lack of strong evidence.
Following alleged electoral violence that broke out in his Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency during the country's presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25, Doguwa was charged with murder. The charges stemmed from alleged clashes between members of his party, the All Progressives Congress, and the New Nigeria People's Party.
It was said that during the electoral violence, about 15 NNPP members who were card-carrying members perished. According to p.m news.
However, Doguwa has been charged with involvement in electoral violence by the Kano State Police Command.
A few days later, the lawmaker was detained by the police at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA, while he was leaving the country.
After his detention, the police file five counts of accusations against him, including criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of a firearm, mischief, and inciting a riot.
