The Kano state administration has announced Monday, August 1, 2022, as a work-free day to commemorate the start of the 1,445th Islamic (Hijrah) New Year.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje congratulated all Muslims in the state on the spiritual importance of the event, which also calls for self-evaluation.
He urged people to use the vacation to seek Allah's pardon and to pray for His intervention to save the nation from persisting security issues as well as to enhance the general well-being and growth of the state and the country in general.
The governor promised locals that his government would work tirelessly to keep its commitment to enhance their living standards via the implementation of people-oriented programmes and initiatives.
The message also advised people who have yet to receive their voter's card to do so in order to participate in the next general elections.
Muharram, the first lunar month of the New Islamic Year, begins on Saturday, July 30, 2022.
