Delta PDP Gov’ship Candidate Escapes Assassination

Less than four days to the governorship and state house of assembly elections, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has escaped assassination by a whisker as some gunmen reportedly ambushed his convoy along Warri/Sapele highway and opened fire on them.

This was said by Oborevworii, who is also the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the Speaker's convoy was targeted as it was travelling from Sapele to Osubi.

The following was stated in the statement: "On Sunday, March 12, 2023, between Elume Junction and Okuabude in the State's Okpe Local Government Area, an unknown gunman opened fire heavily on the convoy of Delta State PDP Governorship Candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

"The security cars that were part of the convoy and the automobile he was being driven in were shot at in the event that happened at around 9:05pm.

He had travelled to Sapele for political meetings, and while returning to Osubi, the convoy was ambushed by unidentified gunmen who launched a fierce attack against him, dousing his car and support cars in gunfire. The state's top candidate for governor was only spared life by the mercy of God and the fact that he was travelling in a bulletproof vehicle.

His courageous security guards stepped up to the plate and engaged the alleged assassins in a battle that lasted more than ten minutes until the shooters took off running into the pitch-black night. One of the security guards protecting the PDP governorship candidate was hurt, but no lives were lost. Police have been notified about the situation so they may look into it further.

"This is the second time that Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta State PDP governorship candidate for the 2023 governorship election, has been the target of a suspected assassination attempt.

The first occurred on January 11, 2023, when assassins posing as police officers opened fire on his convoy along the Warri/Sapele motorway as he was travelling to Koko in the state's Warri North Local Government Area to commission the ultra-modern floating market, Ogheye. He narrowly evaded death. According to dailytust report.
