The governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike recently invited the President-elect of Nigeria and member of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Commission some projects in Rivers state. The event which stirred reactions among many Nigerians also got a reaction from the former Governorship candidate of the APC in Rivers state, Tonye Cole, who pointed where Wike got it wrong while inviting Tinubu to Rivers state.

Speaking on Arise Television News recently, Tonye said that Wike should have notified the the APC in Rivers state about the invitation and even go further to invite them to the event. The politician said that there was nothing wrong with Tinubu visiting Rivers state on Wike's invitation because he acted in the capacity of the President-elect.
Tonye explained that he never got any invitation from Wike and he believes Wike acted in the capacity of a governor who only represented a section of the people of Rivers state. In his words, he said: "I will describe the visit from two sides. The first side is the President-elect, as the President-elect of Nigeria, he has every right to go anywhere. Rivers state government invited him and he has come, he has come to Rivers state as President-elect, with that, we have no problem at all.
Where the issue is, is that the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike ought to also be the governor of all Rivers people. One of the things he should have done if inviting the President-elect, who is the President-elect of all Nigerians, would have been to call us APC in Rivers state, to inform us that he is inviting the President-elect and would want us to be part of that Programme. Never got any invitation, I was not invited personally, I was not invited as my capacity as a candidate neither was our party the APC invited to any of the event.
I believe that is where there is a difference between the President-elect acting in his capacity as the President-elect for all Nigerians while Governor Wike act in his capacity as the governor of a section of Rivers people. That is where our disagreement is."
