1 key reason why Igbos should support Umahi to emerge first Igbo president

Ahead of the 2023 presidential race, there are a lot of controversies over the region that will produce the next president of Nigeria

In the southern part of Nigeria, the region is calling for zoning of the presidency to make it easy for them to produce the next President.

The southern politicians had called on the north to agree on zoning for the sake of equity and fairness.

On the other hand, northern Nigeria has rejected the call for presidential zoning to the south in 2023 on the ground that the demand of their southern counterparts is unconstitutional.

The northern Governors in their last meeting in Kaduna noted that the position of the President of Nigeria will be open for contest and the candidate with the highest number of votes will be declared the winner.Photo credit: PUNCH

However, if the people of the southeast play their politics very well, the northern politicians in the ruling All Progressives Congress may still work for a southeast politician to fly the flag of the ruling political party.

One politician that has been tipped to emerge as the first Igbo president is Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.

Several reports have shown that Governor Umahi is working to ensure the realization of the Igbo presidency in 2023.

Recall that after his defection to APC in 2020, Umahi had stated that he was ready to sacrifice himself to achieve the Igbo presidency in 2023.

He is one of the politicians who have shown his interest in the Igbo presidency project. There is one major reason why Umahi needs the support of his Igbo people to achieve the Igbo presidency in 2023.

Igbo Has Not Produced The President Since The Return of Democracy In 1999

The people of southeast have a good argument on Igbo presidency and need to play their politics wisely to convince some influential politicians in the north to support Umahi to fly the flag of APC.

Igbos needs to declare an open support for Umahi in the fight for Igbo presidency and endorse him to emerge as the first Igbo president after the return of democracy in 1999.

This move is capable of convincing the leadership of APC and many northern politicians to work for Umahi to clinch the presidential ticket of APC in 2023.
