Dr. John Chike Akunyili, on September 25, 2021, was brutally murdered by unidentified gunmen in Anambra State. He was the husband of Late Prof. Dora Akunyili, former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Dr. Akunyili fought in the Nigerian Civil war While a young man, and this experience gave him the drive to become a medical practitioner to save lives. He had miraculously lived with a bullet in his skull which was a result of the civil war he participated in.
He was a man of excellent virtue and a true Philanthropist and this was shown in numerous good Gestures he offered to society.
In a recent video released by his daughter, Chidiogo Akunyili, she revealed that her father once bought an old woman's entire Plantains in a bid to help her and support her business.
After seeing what Dr. Akunyili did, the old woman who was filled with joy and excitement also started praying for the late Dr. Akunyili, raining blessings on him and dancing while doing so.
Dr. Akunyili also brought his Philanthropic nature to the medical field as he offered free medical services to Catholic priests at Bigard Memorial Seminary, for over 45 years. Indeed, Dr. Akunyili was a true philanthropist, always looking to help those in need.
