The President-elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has declared that he remains committed to a united Nigeria, saying that the country’s unity was not negotiable.
Tinubu made the declaration on Thursday in Port Harcourt while inaugurating the Rivers State Magistrate Court complex, constructed by the Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike-led administration.
The President-elect said: “I promise Nigerians, the unity of this country is not negotiable. That is what Wike and I are promoting jointly. I promise I will be fair to all.”
He lauded Wike for fighting corruption through the provision of conducive working environment for the Judiciary.
Tinubu added: “To what Wike has done here today, he is fighting corruption. That is the way to fight corruption. He has been contributing very well to this.
You don’t expect your judges to live in squalor, to operate in squalor, to dispense justice in squalor. This is part of the changes that is necessary in our policy think-tank. We must fight corruption and we definitely must look at the other side of the coin.

Suspended Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, has insisted that he did no wrong in announcing the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Aisha Dahiru Ahmed, winner of the rescheduled March 18 poll.
The REC said he acted within his powers to announce the winner of the election based on valid results collated by the legally-appointed and recognised collation officers for the election.
Yunusa-Ari, who was on Tuesday arrested by the police for interrogation, said his action was meant to forestall a breakdown of law and order and to prevent further manipulation of the election process.
His defence was contained in a fundamental rights enforcement suit he filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, in which he is, among others seeking to compel INEC and other respondents to publicly apologize to him for allegedly engaging in media trial against him.
He wants the apology published in two national dailies “for the unlawful and unconditional media trials and negative press interviews, press statements/releases, social media posts, publications etc against the applicant for carrying out his duties as the REC in Adamawa State during the supplementary governorship election held on April 15, 2023.”
