The nominees for Player of the Month was released yesterday and Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo who was among the shortlisted players faces stiff competition but has a key advantage over others.
The EPL player of the month is an award given to the player adjudged to have had the best performance in the month.
Five other players were nominated alongside Ronaldo - Joao Cancelo, Antonio Rudiger, Alex Saint-Maximin, Mo Salah and Ismalia Sarr.
Ronaldo is one of the top favourites to win the award. The 36-year old scored 3 goals in 3 matches in September which included a brace on his debut against Newcastle. He also had a total shot of 17 and 81% passing accuracy.
Among the other five nominees, the two players who are also strong contenders for the award is Liverpool's Mo Salah and Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger.
Liverpool currently tops the EPL table thanks to Salah's brilliant form in September. Just like Ronaldo, he scored 3 goals in 3 matches and reached a milestone of 100 EPL goals.
As for Antonio Rudiger, the Chelsea centre back has been vital for the Blues, keeping two clean sheets and also scoring a goal (Versus Tottenham) in the previous months.
These two players will be Ronaldo's key oppositions, but there is one advantage that the Manchester United star has over them which should help him win the award.
The EPL player of the month is determined by voting from a selected panel and captains of each EPL club. The fans also have a say in who wins the award as they can vote online, and this is where Ronaldo has a comparative advantage.
Based on his massive fan base, Ronaldo is likely to have more votes from online voting than Salah and Rudiger. He is the most followed footballer on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and this will work in his favour in terms of fans voting.
If Ronaldo goes ahead to win the award, it will be the fifth time he is doing so, having won it four times during his first stint in the EPL.
Do you see Mo Salah or Rudiger beating Ronaldo to this award?
