President Muhammadu Buhari has apologized to Nigerians for the naira redesign program, claiming that it was not meant to inflict hardship.
In October 2022, Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), revealed the idea to redesign the N200, N500, and N1,000 notes. The top bank established February 10 as the deadline for the usage of old naira notes — and it led to a shortage of the currency.
In a video clip uploaded on Twitter by Uba Sani, gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna, on Thursday, Buhari stated the strategy was designed to stimulate the economy.
In his word he said:“I apologize to you for the suffering caused by the fluctuation of the naira. That was done to strengthen the economy of the nation, not to create hardship for anybody."
Buhari encouraged Kaduna locals to vote for Sani, a senator representing Kaduna central, as the governor of the state.
“First of all, I want to once again thank you for the faith you have in me by electing me president on the platform of our party, the APC,” Buhari remarked.I want to utilize this occasion to announce to you that Uba Sani is our candidate for the gubernatorial race in Kaduna state. I am imploring you to vote for him and other APC candidates for the house of assembly to assist him with work.
Uba is a major participant in this adventure. We worked together in the senate and he displayed aptitude and skill. He will do better than predicted.Kaduna is home to me. Consequently, I encourage you to vote for Uba Sani and all our APC candidates for the state assembly.”
