Senator Dino Melaye, the spokeswoman for the Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Committee, asserted that, "the Independent National Electoral Commission spent more than N400 billion on what he called 'a cartoon show' the presidential election."
The spokesperson revealed this in a video that The PUNCH was able to secure on Monday night.
Melaye claimed in the one minute, 45 second video that the Central Bank of Nigeria was misleading in its efforts to redesign the naira.
According to PUNCH, "This occurs just hours after Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, and other party chieftains stormed the INES headquarters to protest the declaration of Tinubu as the next president following the elections on February 25, 2023. The PDP leadership was led by Senator Iyorchia Ayu."
The failure to publish the presidential election results to the iRev platform in real time on Election Day, among other things, led the PDP, Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party to reject the results, claiming that, "the poll was marred by violence, rigging, and lack of integrity."
PUNCH further reported, In addition, Melaye said, "We spent almost N400 billion simply for a caricature show to ensure that the mandate of the people freely granted to Atiku Abubakar is recovered. INEC misled Nigerians."
On the redesign of the naira, the spokesperson claimed that "Bola Tinubu was given money, so on Election Day, the APC distributed new notes around the nation and the PDP was deprived of finances."
He further stated, "Naira redesign was a ploy by INEC to deceive Nigerians."
"He also called on all PDP supporters, lovers of democracy all over the country not to allow this to stand."
