Tinubu’s Victory: Court Taking Too Long To Decide On Atiku’s And Obi’s Petitions– Cardinal Onaiyekan

It is unfortunate that the Presidential Election Tribunal is taking so long to rule on cases contesting the victory of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-elect, according to John Cardinal Onaiyekan, the former archbishop of the Arch-diocese of Abuja. This information was revealed by Cardinal Onaiyekan on Thursday during a Daily Post-evaluated Channels Television Interview. Remember how Tinubu won the presidential election with more than 8 million votes? That was the result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

However, Tinubu's victory is being contested in court by Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party. It was recently announced by the court that it would begin on Monday, May 8. The Archbishop, however, criticized the tribunal's start date being delayed. But he continued by saying that he is still awaiting the court's ruling on who won the election. "The election is still ongoing. Court cases still pending resolution exist. Because of this, we are in an unusual situation where the court is handling a challenge to the election of a President-elect who has already been sworn in.

"I have the right to claim that I am waiting for the court to decide who won the election. I agree that swearing in people while they are still in court makes little sense. "We need to review the voting procedure to make sure we have a winner who will be sworn in and who everyone will support. It is unfortunate that it is taking the Court too long to reach a decision on this matter, he said, adding that he was neither a legal expert nor a judge. The 2023 presidential election was held on February 25th, and it has been more than 65 days since then.
