The English Premier League returned to action after interesting mid-week clashes between top European giants. Unfortunately for the premier league, Manchester United was the only team that made the league proud in Europe after beating Barcelona 2-1 to advance to the Europa League round of 16.
After the postponement of Newcastle game because of their Carabao Cup finals, Everton and Aston Villa battled it out at Goodison Park, with the first half of the game ending in a goalless draw. Aston Villa came out strong in the second half and was able to return to winning ways after losing to Arsenal last week.
Southampton and Leeds United also settled for a 0-0 draw at Elland Road in the first half, with Leeds United grabbing a crucial three points. Thanks to Junior Firpo's goal second-half goal. David Moyes West Ham United also hosted Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium. Despite the game ending in a goalless draw in the first half, the Hammers was able to overpower the Forest and ran riot in front of their fans.
Gabriel Martineli's second-half goal was enough for the Gunners to beat Leicester City at the King Power Stadium despite Leonard Trossard's goal being disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee. As it stands, the Gunners are five points above Manchester City before City faces Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
