Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a member of the House of Representatives from Kano State and the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, has explained why he is the best candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly.
The opposition parties have criticized Ado Doguwa for his alleged erratic behaviour, claiming that he lacks the competence and temperament to replace the current speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila. Ado Doguwa was previously arrested after the general elections on charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of a firearm, mischief, and public disturbance.
In response to the criticism, Ado Doguwa addressed journalists in Abuja and explained that those trying to portray him in a negative light have misperceived his attitude. He claimed that he did not exhibit any high temperament even when he served as the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives. Ado Doguwa also highlighted that he has four wives and 28 children and has never had a divorce, demonstrating that he possesses the qualities necessary to excel as the next Speaker of the House of Representatives. He expressed his commitment to serve Nigerians and be a "carpet" for them to walk on.
