The Majority leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa has alleged that the ruling party will not attempt to divide the country with a Muslim Senate Presidency. He said in an interview with Arise Tv news that the party and all the executives are aware of the situation with the Muslim-Muslim and that they will not want to endanger the unity and stability of the Nation.
He stated categorically that the North West will get the Speakership position because of the role they played in the Presidential election. He then added that the South will get the position of the Senate Presidency. According to him, it's inevitable that a Christian from the South will get the position.
He said, ''I would like to assure you that as a member of the NEC [National Executive Committee] of the party and also a member of the National caucus of the party, I don't envisage a situation of the Muslim taking the Senate Presidency, the APC will definitely avoid that.
We have every expectation and every conviction that this time around since we have the President-elect from the South Western part of the country and we have the Vice-President-elect from the North Eastern part of the Country, it is our humble expectation that a North-west Muslim will take the Speaker, a Southern Christian will take the Senate. I believe this is a very good arithmetic and I think it will work out and the party will address some of these concerns.''
