INEC To Issue President-elect Tinubu, Shettima With Certificates Of Return On Wednesday

Having declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the winner of the February 25, 2023 presidential election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said the issuance of the Certificate of Return will take place later this Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 3:00 pm.

The INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who made the declaration in the early hours of Wednesday said Tinubu and the Vice President-elect will be issued their certificates of return at the International Conference Centre venue of the National Collation Centre in Abuja.

Mahmood said that Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 6,984,520, Peter Obi of the Labour Party received 6,101,533, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) received 1,496,687.

The INEC chairman stated that given that Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC had met all legal requirements to be declared the election's victor, INEC was required by law to issue the Certificate of Return to him.

In the four-day long collation of the presidential election results, it was determined that 24,250,940 of the votes were genuine, 939,278 were rejected, and 24,965,218 were cast in total.
