Nigerians have been reacting to media reports quoting the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhasan Doguwa, as saying that his ability to manage a family of four wives and twenty-eight children is proof that he can lead the House of Representatives as the Speaker.
Doguwa was reportedly responding to criticism that he lacks the competence and temperament for the position because of his temperamental behaviour.
While speaking with journalists on the issue on Wednesday, he said:
“Even as Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, I did not exhibit any high temperament. For those who refer to me as a high-level temperamental person, they have misperceived Ado Doguwa, the man who has four wives and 28 children. I have never had a divorce. That shows I have what it takes to excel as the next Speaker. I will be a carpet for Nigerians to march or walk on.”
But Nigerians have knocked him for flaunting his polygamy status as qualification for such a top position while reacting to the news story posted by the Punch newspaper on Twitter.
