Different ways Manchester United could lineup under the management of Erik ten Hag against West Ham

Erik ten Hag's first season as manager of Manchester United has been a success, with the club now in the Premier League title race, having won the EFL Cup, defeating Barcelona to qualify for the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League, and being in contention for the FA Cup. The Red Devils face West Ham United in the fifth round of the 2022–23 FA Cup, and Ten Hag will be hoping to make a statement with a strong team selection. Here, we take a look at the different ways Manchester United could lineup against the Hammers.

The first option is to deploy a 4-3-3 formation with David De Gea in goal, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, and Luke Shaw making up the back four. The midfield three could consist of Fred and Casemiro shielding the defence, with Bruno Fernandes providing the attacking impetus. Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford could lead the line, supported by wide attacking players such as Anthony Martial and Elanga.

The second option is a 4-2-3-1 formation, with De Gea in goal and Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, and Shaw making up the back four. The midfield duo could be Fred and Scott McTominay, with Christian Eriksen playing behind the central striker. Elanga, Sancho, and Rashford could play as the attacking three, with Rashford as the focal point of the attack.

The third option is a 3-4-3 formation, with De Gea in goal and a back three of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Harry Maguire. The midfield four could be Fred, Christian Eriksen, McTominay, and Fernandes, with Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Martial playing as the front three. This formation would allow Bruno to roam freely and provide United with more attacking options.

Whichever formation Ten Hag decides to go with, one thing is for sure: Manchester United will be looking to make a statement against West Ham United. With a strong team selection, the Red Devils could be in with a chance of progressing to the next round of the FA Cup.
